JOB SUMMARY

 

The successful incumbent will be responsible for developing and directing financial plans and perspectives to support the Group’s strategic business plan and growth opportunities as well as play a strategic role in the entity’s future business development and progression. To oversee, assess and direct all financial activities of the Group, including preparation of financial reports as well as summaries and forecasts for the future business growth and general economic outlook. Oversee various Finance Departments, Treasury and International Trade Centre and Group Sourcing and Procurement Unit. Direct the annual budget preparation, audit and regulatory reporting functions.

 

The incumbent will also provide oversight and coordination of the Group’s liquidity, interest and currency rate risk exposure in local and foreign denominations to satisfy the Group’s long-term growth and value added objectives, while minimizing volatility and risk of the Group’s portfolio of investments and funding. 

 

 

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assess the Group's financial performance and direct the timely preparation of all financial reports
  • Oversees the preparation and review of the annual budget
  • Oversees the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual Financial Statements
  • Reviews reports to analyse projected Group revenue, expenses, and profit and asset value against actual figures and suggests methods of improving the planning process
  • Oversees the Administration of the Department and Payables
  • Ensures that all accounting and financial control systems are installed and effective
  • Keeps abreast with General accounting principles in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards and other laws and regulations by which the Group is guided
  • Researches accounting issues and prepares guidelines and procedures as required. Coordinate the preparation of other technical reports; respond to and prepare written correspondence
  • Approves income and expenditure vouchers within authorised limits and performs the duties of authorised signatory
  • Optimises Group tax efficiency and capital management by providing relevant expertise and advice
  • Manages human resources necessary for the efficient and professional operation of the company
  • Guides, directs and provides oversight for Staff on work activities, projects and programmes in the Unit
  • Oversee the development and implementation of various pricing strategies to minimize risk, reduce cost and maximize income across various assets and liabilities within the Group
  • Monitors the prudent management of the liquidity position and FX Risk for the Group, including compliance with internal Policies and Guidelines, Local Regulatory requirements, local payment system and intraday liquidity requirements
  • Manages the development of new and maintenance of existing relationships with multi-lateral agencies, foreign banks and other large fund providers to provide loans and other types of funding to manage liquidity, currency and interest rate mismatches
  • Provides oversight on the management and development of the treasury sales function and overall responsibility for target achievement and aggressive high net worth institutional and corporate client development
  • Oversees the strategic management of the FX trading activities, long and short FX positions
  • Reviews balanced scorecard performance benchmarks against strategic targets, competition, and market trends and suggests improvements to these benchmarks
  • Represents the Group on various Boards, internal committees and external organizations; participates in outside community and professional groups and committees; provides technical assistance as necessary
  • Provides oversight on the operations of the Group Sourcing and Procurement Unit, as well as guidance on the sourcing and procurement strategies, policies and procedures, as prescribed by legislation
  • Provides oversight on the management of the tendering process
  • Performs all other duties, assignments and special projects as assigned by the Group Chief Executive Officer /Board of Directors relative to the function

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

 

  • Candidates must possess a Post Graduate Degree in a relevant discipline from a reputable University or other professional qualification e.g. ACCA, CPA, CGA, CFA, CIMA, from a recognized professional body and a minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience with at least ten (10) years at a Senior Managerial Level OR
  • First Degree in Accounting and a minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant experience in Banking at a Senior Managerial Level with a successful track record of performance
  • Working knowledge of tax laws, regulatory environment, organizational tax practices, obligations; ability to manage organization tax related issues
  • Working knowledge of finance, financial methods, tools and strategies
  • Working knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; with the ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports
  • Strong analytical, evaluation, negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to maintain utmost confidentiality in all aspects of this position
  • Strong Leadership and Managerial skills
