First Steps Programme

The First Steps Programme is an entry level programme that seeks to engage young adults across Trinidad and Tobago to provide training in Banking and its best practices while assisting participants in choosing their career path through their discovery of Banking and Customer Service.

To ensure that First Citizens’ frontline staff are competent in all banking operations, corporate culture and focused on providing exceptional customer services, to ensure we remain the employer of choice.

Programme Details

This training programme shall comprise of an integration of learning between classroom and on-the-job training. Candidates will be exposed to training in Technical and Behavioral Competencies, which will be followed by an assignment to a branch where they will be trained in the position of Teller. While assigned to the Branch, the candidates will be assigned a Buddy to assist with their learning and development.

Programme Duration:

The duration of the programme is three (3) months which includes the following:

  • One (1) month of classroom training at our Learning Centre that concludes with an assessment. This assessment determines the trainee’s progression to the  two (2) month On-the-Job Training - Branch Assignment

 

  • Two (2) months of On-the-Job Training Branch Assignment, which encompasses a Performance Assessment at the end of each month which determines suitability and eligibility for the receipt of a one (1) year contract

The training programme prepares individuals for the position of Teller based on the manpower requirements of the retail network. 

Minimum Programme Requirements:

The First Steps programme is open to suitably qualified individuals who fit the following criteria:

  • Must possess a minimum of five (5) CSEC or CXC grades I, II or III (including Mathematics and English Language which must be at grade I or II or equivalent. Please note that not more than two (2) of the other subjects should be at a grade III level. Grades for all subjects must be listed on your resume to be considered for the programme.
  •  
  • Prior experience in a similar role will be an asset, but is not mandatory

  • Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism Awareness
  • Robbery Procedures
  • Fraud Awareness
  • Conflict Management/ Team Work & Emotional Intelligence
  • Personal Effectiveness (Communication & Time Management)
  • Information Security Awareness
  • Safety Practices in the Workplace
  • Ethics in Banking
