What are your criteria for recruitment?

Decisions are based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) as well as their academic qualifications and years of experience relevant to the job.

How do you make sure your recruitment process is fair?

Being fair and acting ethically is at the heart of the way we do business. We use valid, reliable processes and tools, focusing only on job-related skills, experience, competencies, and potential. All other factors, including – but not limited to – race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status, are irrelevant.

What information is required for an application?

For a successful application, you will need to provide the information requested within the application form inclusive of:

  • CV/ Resume (preferably in Word or PDF format)
  • Email Address
  • Telephone or Mobile Number
  • Primary Address and Secondary Address (if applicable)
  • Education and work experience

How long does it take to complete the online application process?

On average it takes about ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes to complete the application process. This can depend on internet speeds and the browser you use. The registration and first job application may take a bit longer. However, after the first time, most of your details will be prepopulated for additional applications. There may be additional questions for the screening and evaluation process, related to the position.

How can I submit an application?

To be considered for open positions, applications can be submitted via our careers portal on our website. Applicants will be required to have a candidate profile to apply. Only applications submitted through the portal will be acknowledged. If you do not have a candidate profile, create one by Join Talent Community.

How do I check to see if a position is available?

We post all available jobs through our Career website. To access the site, please click Join Talent Community. If you are unable to successfully locate the job you are interested in on our career site, it means the job posting for position you are interested in is now closed and applications are no longer being accepted.

What kind of questions do you ask in interviews?

We ask structured behavioural questions also known as competency based questions at the interview. Technical questions may also be asked based on the nature of the role.

Do you check references without first asking candidates?

No, we always obtain explicit permission before contacting references. Please refer to our Addendum to the Application for Employment on your candidate profile.

What is your policy on employing members of the same family?

We ensure that no employees are involved in any way in the recruitment of family members. In addition, no employees may have a reporting relationship – direct or indirect – to another family member. In practice, this means that family members do not work in the same department.

Do you use third-party recruitment agencies?

We recruit the majority of our people directly. However, we may occasionally use recruitment agencies.

Do you check medical records?

Before assuming duty, all new employees must be certified "medically fit for employment" by visiting one of the doctors approved by the Group who perform pre-employment medical examinations. 

How long does it take to get a response from the company after applying?

Our HR Department normally receives a large number of applications, and automatic responses are generated for all applications received via our careers portal. Typically, shortlisted candidates will be contacted within two (2) to three (3) weeks after the job opening has closed. In some cases, it could take more or less time, depending on the complexity and dynamics of the position.

If I am not successful, will I get feedback?

Candidates receive feedback throughout the process. Those who are not shortlisted receives an e-mail advising of same. Similarly, those who have interviews are in direct contact with an HR representative and receives feedback on their status in the process.

How can I receive job posting notification e-mails from First Citizens?

Candidates are able to create job alerts about open jobs matching their interests on a daily or weekly basis. Alerts can be setup via "Job Alerts" on your Career profile from the “Options” tab.
