JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the Group Strategic and Corporate Planning (GSCP) Department by interpreting, managing data and solving problems using his/her expertise in cutting edge data analytics methods and technology. More specifically, this position will primarily focus on providing insights that support the Group Strategy and its execution. He/she will also be responsible for working with business and technology areas to satisfy both the reporting and analytical needs of the Strategy Office and its' stakeholders. He/she will also be responsible for drawing upon competencies in business analysis, statistics, databases, machine learning, and analytical techniques to understand stakeholders’ requirements, develop analytical models to derive insights and continuously monitor performance of models and their business impact. They also be responsible for providing other research, project and analytical support as needed including but not limited to best practice sharing, process improvement and project coordination.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with team members and strategy owners to execute analytics projects that leverage data in support of the Group Strategy
- Articulates and understands stakeholders’ strategic objectives and their business needs
- Assists with the elicitation and documentation of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and reporting requirements
- Creates process maps, data flow diagrams and wireframes for report development and enhancement
- Works with the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department and other technical resources to retrieve and understand data from source systems
- Documents and prepares artefacts for working with data structures such as database schemas, data dictionaries, data profiles, etc.
- Translates KPIs and reporting needs into analytical solution design requirements
- Cleans, organizes, transforms, and integrates raw data into the desired format for analysis, decision making and dashboard development
- Analyses datasets using statistical techniques to build data models that provide insights in support of Group Strategy and its execution
- Designs, develops and applies statistical theories and methods to solve complex business problems
- Develops and trains predictive models that can be leveraged to support strategic decisions
- Establishes scalable, efficient, automated processes for large-scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation
- Creates data visualizations and dashboards to enable automated tracking of Strategic metrics and KPIs
- Provides support for ad-hoc queries and reports in support of strategy
- Assists with the preparation of presentations required for reporting on key strategic insights
- Researches and applies best practise in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deep Learning and other data-related disciplines that can further support data-driven decision making
- Supports the team in the analysis and improvement of strategic business processes
- Provides project and administrative support to analytics and wider strategy team
- Provides support in advancing strategic performance management systems in the organisation.
- Engages in marketing of the Group’s products and services
- Responds to customers' requests, inquiries, incoming and outgoing calls, both local and foreign, in a courteous and timely manner
- Completes special projects and other delegated activities as assigned by the reporting Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or Statistics; or an equivalent qualification in other Quantitative/ Analytical fields from an accredited institution
- Candidates must also possess a minimum of one (1) year relevant experience as a Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Business Intelligence analyst or related Analytical role
- Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills
- Strong self-starter and time management, conflict resolution and team work skills
- Strong analytical, critical and conceptual thinking skills
- Ability to read, analyse, interpret, and use complex documents and forms
- Ability to analyse and make effective, business-centric recommendations to business leaders and Senior Management
- Scientific curiosity and continuous self-learning with the ability to innovate while still conforming to established best practice
- Working knowledge of contemporary programming and scripting languages
- Exposure to banking and financial data would be an asset
- Experience in the following:
- Querying different types of databases
- Using Microsoft BI Suite (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS)
- Analysing data using tools such as Python, R or Julia,
- Designing and building Dashboards in Excel, Power BI or Tableau
