JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to the Senior Manager - Financial Accounting for the management, planning and organizing of the financial operations of the Company, including managing audits and financial reporting, maintaining financial records, tax, budgeting, statutory and regulatory reporting and monitoring and implementing financial reporting standards and systems to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in managing the accurate and timely preparation and review of the monthly financial management reports which includes:
- Corporate Accounts, Mutual Fund Accounts, Pension Plan accounts and the accounts of other programmes under Trust
- Ensures the timely and accurate preparation of annual and interim financial statements and related notes and schedules in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other special purposes, for examination and certification by the external auditors and for filing with regulatory bodies
- Liaises with Internal and External Auditors as well as relevant parties and supervises activities of the Audit, as required
- Gathers the necessary information from internal parties relevant to the audit
- Adheres to International Financial Reporting Standards, Collective Investment Schemes Bye Laws, Insurance Act, Financial Institutions Act, Securities Act 2012, CBTT Rules
- Reviews all reports prepared and submitted to the statutory and regulatory bodies within the given timelines e.g. CBTT monthly and quarterly reports, to ensure accuracy
- Advises on the Regulatory standards and keeps abreast of the development of IFRS and other laws and regulations by which the Company is guided
- Assists in improving existing internal controls, accounting and reporting systems
- Ensures compliance with all statutory requirements for the filing of tax returns and the payment of Corporation tax, VAT, Financial Services Tax and withholding tax
- Approves income and expenditure vouchers within authorized limits and performs the duties of an authorized signatory
- Ensures that billings are prepared in accordance with governing documents
- Keeps abreast with General accounting principles in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other laws and regulations by which the Group is guided
- Provides guidelines and develops the annual operational budgets and the Company’s annual budget for submission to the Senior Manager, Financial Accounting
- Makes recommendations for appropriate cost control measures to ensure compliance to budgeted figures
- Manages human resources necessary for the efficient and professional operation of the Company
- Engages in the marketing of the Group's products and services
- Responds to customers' requests, inquiries, incoming and outgoing calls, both local and foreign, in a courteous and timely manner consistent with operating standards and escalation to the Manager where necessary
- Completes special projects and other delegated activities as assigned by the Board of Directors and Senior Manager relative to the function
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field from a reputable University or other professional qualification from a recognized professional body e.g. CFA, CPA, CIMA, ACCA and three (3) years progressive experience in Accounting, at least one (1) of which must be at a Supervisory level OR
- Executive Diploma/Diploma and five (5) years progressive experience in in Accounting, at least two (2) of which must be at a Supervisory level OR
- GMDP Certificate and seven (7) years progressive experience in Accounting, at least three (3) of which must be at a Supervisory level
- Candidates must also have membership with a professional organization (ACCA, CPA)
- Knowledge of PROFILE FMS/IBS
- Working knowledge of Bank operations
- Knowledge of Taxation Laws locally and within the region as well as relevant financial legislations, policies and laws
- Strong leadership, communication, presentation , problem solving, evaluation and analytical skills
- A high degree of flexibility and creativity is also required
- Ability to maintain utmost confidentiality in all aspects of the position
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret and use complex documents and forms
