Applicants are hereby invited for the position of Solutions Support Administrator (Non-Management Grade 7), at our Group Information and Communication Technology Department.

JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for the capacity/patch management, maintenance and stability of the technological infrastructure administered on-site and off-site by the Solutions Architecture Department, which includes administering operating systems problems; monitoring and optimizing system performance, assisting with the design and development of database, monitoring and improving database performance/capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyses, guides and assists teams in Departmental projects to ensure compliance with project mandates
- Analyses system problems and initiates corrective action to ensure operational service and throughput are maintained at agreed levels upon escalation where necessary
- Performs capacity management (such as expanding or reducing system resources) on all relevant systems at primary, secondary and offsite locations to ensure that systems maintain the availability standards set out in the Department’s Balance Score Card
- Performs patch management such as applying operating system security patches on all relevant systems at primary, secondary and off-site locations to ensure adherence to internal security policies upon approval
- Administers systems backup (such as archiving and restoring of data) to ensure compliance with business continuity policies
- Assists Management with the design and development of the database
- Implements approved production enhancements in accordance with the change release process to ensure compliance of all systems
- Administers preventative maintenance on systems in collaboration with Vendors to ensure maintenance of systems’ uptime in accordance with Balance Score Card standards
- Installs, commissions and upgrades new and/or existing software systems, and database systems to ensure adherence to updated versions/technologies as per vendor guidelines
- Advises and trains staff on technical strategies when using software and database systems, features and/or products inclusive of advanced or novel applications
- Ensures that the technologies, applications and infrastructure architecture selected to support the business areas are consistent with the Group’s strategies
- Administers the implementation of information technology security and contingency management policies, standards and guidelines and disaster recovery plans that support continuity for the Group
- Engages in marketing of the Group’s products and services
- Responds to customers’ requests, inquiries, incoming and outgoing calls, both local and foreign, in a courteous and timely manner consistent with operating standards and escalation to the Manager where necessary
- Completes special projects and other related activities as assigned by the Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Candidates must possess a Degree in Computer Science or an Information and Communications Technology related discipline
- Candidate must also possess a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an ICT related environment
- Certification from an accredited technical school in Database Management (MSSQL), Linux, Unix, and Windows Operating Systems and Virtual Server environment management (VMWare) will be an asset
