Job Summary
The incumbent will be responsible for efficiently evaluating Commercial and Consumer Credit Proposals submitted to Head Office which includes instalment loans, credit cards, demand loans, overdrafts and mortgages with a focus on high quality analyses and quick turnaround time. He/She will also be responsible for preparing monthly reports as well as providing credit training to Branches.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs detailed analyses and interprets financial statements/information for Commercial credit applications to determine the credit worthiness of applications and makes relevant recommendations on the credit decision within specified timeframes for consideration by the reporting Manager
- Performs detailed analyses and interprets financial statements/information for Consumer and Residential mortgage loan applications to determine the credit worthiness of applications and makes relevant recommendations within specified timeframes fon the credit decision for consideration by the reporting Manager
- Reviews and approves credit facilities within assigned limits
- Contacts lending staff and Branch Managers in the network with respect to obtaining clarifications/additional information on credit submissions to ensure all relevant data is provided for proper review of the credit application(s)
- Laises with external agencies/persons (attorneys, valuators, etc.) to obtain data/ clarifications to inform credit analyses and the final credit decision
- Identifies gaps in the analysis of Consumer and Commercial credit applications submitted and provides relevant guidance, mentoring and coaching to the Retail network as necessary
- Constructs emails for credit applications which are not being supported to highlight shortcomings and provides necessary recommendations solutions for improvement in the quality of credit submissions
- Prepares letters/memos in support of approved/declined applications and submits to manager for sign-off
- Assists in developing and conducting Retail training programmes at the Learning Centre for the Retail Network in an effort to develop lending staff, improve the quality of credit applications and promote greater credit policy compliance
- Delivers in-Branch training sessions for lending staff outlining areas of non-compliance to Credit Policy and other aspects of Credit Quality e.g. documentation, security perfection etc.
- Complies Delinquency reports within the specified time period for submission to Cluster Managers, Head-Retail Banking and General Manager – Retail and Commercial Banking. Also prepares other reports such as Variance Analysis and Vehicle Delinquency for submission to Cluster Managers
- Manages the Mortgage Market Reference Rate (MMRR) review process which includes the sourcing and formulating of data from ICT and communicates with the respective Branches/Units to ensure the timely re-pricing of residential mortgages on a monthly basis
- Assists in the administration of the Bank's Group Lif Insurance and act as Liaison with the Bank's Insurance Broker on behalf of Retail Banking Unit (RBU). Also reviews and calculates Death Claims fir the Installment Loan portfolio
- Reviews and analyses requests for the application of lump sum payments to Mortgage facilities referred by Branch personnel to ensure accuracy and proper application on Profile
- Obtains current market information on other financial institutions and performs competitor analyses to inform policy changes
- Acts as the administrator for the HELP loan portfolio for the Bank which includes calculating quarterly interest payments, handles queries from the Trustee and Effects rate changes annually
- Compiles and assists in the analysis of loan portfolio data for management
- Reviews and reconciles Mortgage loans to address errors identified and provides guidance to the branches for the correction of same
- Engages in marketing of the Group’s products and services
- Completes special projects and other related activities as assigned by the Manager
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a Business/Management related field or any equivalent qualification from an accredited institution
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a credit environment
- Strong oral & written communication, time management and presentation skills
- Strong analytical, conceptual, research, negotiating and problem solving skills
- Strong teamwork and customer interfacing skills
- Ability to use initiative, work independently and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret and use complex/financial documents and forms
